Scholarships
The School of Music also offers several scholarship awards to entering freshmen and current music majors. These undergraduate scholarships are a form of financial aid that help students pay for their education. Unlike student loans, scholarships do not have to be repaid. In order to receive and maintain an award, a student must plan to enroll as a fulltime major in Music or be a current major in the School.
Scholarships awards are granted on the basis of outstanding talent, academic achievement (a 3.0 GPA minimum required), and demonstrated potential for success in the program. Awards from the School of Music are not made on the basis of financial need; however, the receipt of a scholarship from the School may affect a student’s overall financial aid package. Recipients of other forms of financial aid who also receive a scholarship from the School should check with the WVU Office of Financial aid to discuss the parameters of their complete financial aid package.
The Fine Arts Scholarship includes a complete in-state or out-of-state tuition waiver with the expectation of consistent participation in various areas of the School.
A number of cash awards are also available to entering freshmen and current music majors. All cash awards are applied toward the recipient’s tuition balance through the WVU Office of Financial Aid; amounts in excess of the tuition can be applied to any other outstanding balance on the student’s account. Cash awards cannot exceed the total cost of attendance. For detailed information on how scholarships are applied to a student’s account, and how scholarship awards affect loans and grants, contact the WVU Office of Financial Aid.
